Apple iPad Mini with Retina Display

The Apple Store has come back online after a surprise outage this evening and the previously announced iPad mini with Retina display is now on sale. The sale date had not been announced previously, Apple had only specified ‘November.

The pricing begins at $399 for the 16GB WiFi model and $529 for the 16GB LTE model. The top of the range is the 128GB with cellular connectivity for $829.

As of press time, shipping times were 1-3 business days for the 16GB and 32GB WiFi models and 5-10 business days for the cellular models. Some are seeing delivery times anywhere from November 19th through December 5th. Though Apple CEO Tim Cook used the phrase ‘it’s going to be an iPad Christmas on its earnings call, he also acknowledged that not everyone who wanted an iPad mini would be able to get one before the year was out due to supply constraints. So if you must have one, you should probably hop to it.

Though a leaked internal document showed a small sampling of countries would be able to order the device today, we’re seeing countries outside of those few (which included Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore and the US)

iPad Air explodes at a store in Australia

The iPad Air is no doubt Apple’s best iPad, yet – it’s sleek and gorgeous and powered with the best in-class hardware, it’s a gadget everyone wants! However, after reading this, some might be a little skeptical about the iPad Air. According to a report in an Australian newspaper, an iPad Air exploded into flames at a Vodafone retail store in Canberra, Australia.

The iPad Air which exploded was a demo model used to show potential customers who visited the store. It wasn’t a minor explosion, it caused a fire which lead to evacuation of the store after which the fire department had to take control of the scene. A Vodafone spokesperson confirmed that a “burst of flames” shot out of the iPad Air’s charging port while tablet was sitting unused. The iPad Air continued to burn until the fire department arrived to extinguish the fire.

Apple hasn’t said much on the incident, however it is said that an Apple rep visited the store and collected the iPad for further inspection. We hope this was a one off incident and we won’t see any repeats, anywhere.
